What does this Specialist Behaviour Support Worker job involve?

 

Specialist Behaviour Support Workers are responsible for supporting people with learning disabilities and behavioural needs to live full lives, develop skills and maintain their wellbeing.

Your role will include:

  • Supporting the customer in their preferred activities, introducing them to new ones, and developing their independent living skills.
  • Enabling the customer to maintain relationships and meet new people with shared interests.
  • Communicating with the customer in a person-centred way and helping them express their wants and needs.
  • Managing the customer’s anxieties and frustrations using Positive Behaviour Support and Autism-specific approaches.
  • Collating behavioural data and essential paperwork for analysis within our local management structure.
  • Driving the customer to activities using their vehicle, in rotation with the wider team.
  • Liaising with family members and other key stakeholders including social work, psychology, and commissioning teams.
  • Participating in team meetings/reviews, support planning, risk management, and the general development of the service while acting in accordance with the policies and procedures of Look Ahead Care & Support.

Essential qualifications include NVQ Level 2 or equivalent, a minimum of 2 years of experience working with customers with Autism/Challenging Behaviour/learning disabilities, a driving licence, experience of facilitating creative activities for vulnerable adults.
