What does this Care Assistant job involve?

 

As a Domiciliary Care Assistant, you’ll support people in their own homes so they can live safely, comfortably, and independently. Each day will be different, but your main responsibilities may include:

 

  • Companionship & conversation – Spending time with clients, offering a listening ear, sharing stories, and providing friendly company.

  • Personal care – Supporting with washing, dressing, toileting, and maintaining personal hygiene with dignity and respect.

  • Meal preparation – Helping to prepare or serve meals and ensuring clients are eating and drinking well.

  • Medication support – Prompting or assisting clients to take prescribed medication safely.

  • Light household tasks – Helping keep the home tidy and comfortable (for example, light cleaning, laundry, or making the bed).

  • Following care plans – Each client has a personalised plan, and you’ll follow it carefully to meet their individual needs.

  • Safeguarding & wellbeing – Being alert to any changes in a client’s health, mood, or environment, and reporting concerns promptly to keep them safe.

  • Communication & teamwork – Keeping clear records, updating the office or family when needed, and working closely with your colleagues to deliver great care.

Am I the right person for this Care Assistant job?

 

Essential requirements:

 

  • A caring, compassionate, and patient nature

  • Reliability and honesty — clients depend on you

  • A driver with access to your own car (essential for this role)

  • A mobile phone for logging visits and communication

  • Availability for 4 x 1 hour daily visits (including some flexibility if needed)

  • Good communication skills and fluent spoken English

  • Willingness to complete care training and follow care plans

  • A commitment to safeguarding and respecting clients’ dignity at all times

 

Desirable (but not essential):

 

  • Previous experience in care, nursing, or volunteering

  • Knowledge of the local Wheathampstead area
