About the Company

Dimensions is a leading not-for-profit social care provider that supports around 3,000 people with learning disabilities and autistic people across England and Wales, helping them to live fulfilling, independent lives in their communities.
Our vision is simple but powerful: “Better Lives for More People.”

We deliver high-quality, personalised support rooted in our five core values — Ambition, Courage, Integrity, Partnership and Respect — ensuring every person we support is valued, heard and empowered to reach their potential.

This Support Worker role exists because the people we support rely on dedicated colleagues to help them stay safe, confident and connected to the world around them. By enabling choice, independence and meaningful daily experiences, you play a vital part in bringing our vision to life for each person, every day.

Why should I apply for this Support Worker job?

  • Competitive pay and benefits, including holiday pay and pension contributions.
  • A rewarding role where you’ll make a real difference every day.
  • Ongoing training and career development opportunities to help you grow in your role.
  • A supportive and inclusive work environment where you are valued and respected.
  • The chance to work with a fantastic team dedicated to making lives better.

What does this Support Worker job involve?

As a Support Worker in Hemel Hempstead, you’ll be supporting one highly motivated and community-minded young man who lives independently and leads an active, purposeful life. Each day, you’ll help him stay organised, confident and independent by supporting his routines — such as taking vitamins, checking medication, planning his week, and keeping on top of day-to-day tasks.

Your role will involve:

  • Spending time alongside him in the community and at home: joining him for runs with his local club, accompanying him to volunteering commitments, supporting his woodcraft projects, cooking together (especially during his live cook-along sessions), walking his dog, and helping him keep up with social and family connections.
  • You’ll provide encouragement, companionship and structure, making sure he can continue embracing the activities and goals he’s passionate about.
  • You’ll also help him maintain a safe and stable routine by communicating clearly, following personalised support plans and ensuring safeguarding responsibilities are met.

Am I the right person for this Support Worker job?

We’re looking for:

  • Someone who shares Dimensions’ core values of Ambition, Courage, Integrity, Partnership and Respect.
  • You don’t need previous care experience — what matters most is your positive attitude, compassion, reliability and willingness to learn.
  • You’ll need to be proactive, patient and genuinely enthusiastic about supporting a highly motivated young man to live life to the fullest.
  • You should feel confident encouraging independence, helping structure routines, communicating clearly and building a warm, trusting relationship.
  • A caring nature, good problem-solving skills and the ability to support someone to stay engaged with their passions, from running and volunteering to creative projects, are essential.
  • You must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to your own car, as driving is an essential part of supporting him day-to-day — mileage is reimbursed.
  • You’ll need to be able to work a mix of daytime, evening and sleep-in shifts, including every other weekend.
  • Being dependable, organised and comfortable working independently is key to ensuring continuity and safety.
  • Above all, we’re looking for someone who brings encouragement, energy and kindness. Someone committed to making a real difference in another person’s life through person-centred support.
