Harpenden Mencap has an exciting opportunity for an experienced fundraiser to join the team and transform our fundraising activity.

What does this Fundraising Manager job involve?

To lead Harpenden Mencap’s fundraising activities and deliver the fundraising strategy, enabling an increased annual income and ensuring the charity is reliably and sustainability funded.

Building on a solid base of currently unsolicited donations, you will proactively fundraise to support us to deliver our ambitious new growth plans. Your work will enable us to realise our new fundraising strategy, which will see us double our voluntary income over the next five years. You will help us to deliver a small-scale capital appeal, new fundraising campaigns and scope the feasibility of an annual challenge event. 

  • Create and deliver an annual plan of fundraising activity, which will include multiple opportunities for donors to engage and give;
  • Secure income from trusts and foundations, the local community, major donors, corporates, individuals, events and any other appropriate source;
  • Undertake prospect research to identify new and lapsed donors;
  • Design and deliver appropriate stewardship plans for existing and new donors;
  • Create cases for support and fully costed proposals for new projects in line with our organisational strategy e.g., supported employment, lifelong learning, sport and leisure services.
  • Create and deliver a capital appeal (Target £150k);
  • Run or commission an annual challenge event;

Am I the right person for this Fundraising Manager job?

You will have experience in professional fundraising, creating compelling cases for support and will be confident in speaking to existing and potential donors. You will understand how to work effectively with fundraising committees and volunteers and have a keen interest in social media.

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent 
  • Two years experience in a similar field of work
  • Demonstrable experience of securing income from at least two of the following sources: Individual giving, major donors, trusts and foundations, corporates, events and/or community fundraising
  • Proven track record in budget planning and meeting income targets
  • Experience working with volunteers and fundraising committees
  • Experience in cultivating donors though to a gift and providing excellent stewardship
  • Experience creating a fully costed case for support and securing funds to deliver
  • Experience in social media marketing and communications
  • Experience using a customer relationship management database to record donor data and plan activity
