Highbury Rise is a small 22 bedroom care home in Hitchin focussed on providing a homely environment and person centred care.  Highbury is one of three homes in the Hertfordshire area and part of the Benslow care home group.  Steve McQuinn formed the Benslow group in 1982 with his wife Sue.  We know the heart of delivery of great care is developing a great team and the cook is integral to this team.

What does this Cook job involve?

 

Main duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • To ensure that all residents receive a varied, balance and nutritious diet.
  • To maintain and be responsible for organising daily cleaning of the kitchen
  • To organise all duty rotas for all kitchen staff and ensuring sufficient cover at all times.
  • To order as necessary and with the guidance of the operations director from suppliers and pass on invoices to the home manager for delivery to the accounts department.
  • To ensure that the dining area is kept clean and tidy ensuring that tables are laid correctly and at the right time.
  • To act in compliance with the instructions and procedure relating to notification of accidents and other Health and Safety matters.
  • To regularly inspect fittings and fixtures and the equipment and liase with the manager/matron of the home and the operations manager for repairs and replacements.
  • To supervise overall standards of cuisine, menu planning within budgetary limits.
  • To maintain all required administrative records for the efficient management of the kitchen, in particular information regarding menus and orders.
  • To instruct staff in relation to their tasks and duties, which includes induction training for all new staff. Also to give advice on how to prepare deliver and store food to all other staff.
  • To ensure daily temperature records are kept for all fridges and freezers.
  • To ensure that all food handling staff receives approved food hygiene training seeking guidance and support from the human resource department.
  • To abide by the homes regulations with regard to the Benslow Management Company Policies and Procedures.
