Verulam House is a nursing and residential home located in the heart of St Albans. Verulam House is in the tranquillity of its own beautiful gardens and is within walking distance from the town centre which makes it easily assessable by bus, train or own transport.

We are an independent home that can accommodate up to 50 residents, who require assistance with assisted living, full nursing, palliative or dementia care. We also accommodate people that require post-op convalescence care, short stay respite care. We have an established team of trained staff & experienced staff with good staff retention. We endeavour to offer quality care for all residents within an atmosphere that is always friendly yet professional and respectful. We welcome enthusiasm, ambition, and drive in every aspect of our professional life. One of our Nurses has left due to relocating to the midlands.

What does this Registered Nurse job involve?

 

  • Ensure that a high standard of nursing care is achieved and maintained.
  • Assess resident's conditions and requirements and ensure their physical, mental, spiritual, and social needs are met either personally or by delegation to appropriate members of staff.
  • To take charge of the Home in the absence of Matron and/or deputy.
  • Maintain the smooth running of the day-to-day management of the home and be responsible for maintaining and altering the duty rota where necessary.
  • Liaise with and carry out the instructions of general practitioners, consultants and physiotherapists and other external agencies.
  • Be responsible for the ordering, administration and recording of medicines according to policy and statutory requirements.
  • On admission, assess residents' needs and formulate a care plan involving the resident and relatives- monitor and review monthly, involving relatives and when change in condition warrants it.
  • Ensuring excellent communications, both verbal and written using digital system, maintaining accurate records on residents, and informing other members of the senior care team of day-to-day changes or concerns.
  • Being involved and taking handover.
  • Maintain good communication with relatives at all times informing of any concerns with regards to the resident.
  • Ensure that you are aware of your responsibilities as primary nurse.
  • Report in the digital Care Plan, clearly and concisely, the condition of the resident in his/her care to the Matron and to other nursing staff at 'hand-over' times.
  • Supervise and oversee Health Care Assistants - assist with their training and encourage them to be kind, efficient and observant carers. 
  • Wound management, EOLC, catheter care, venepuncture, Syringe pump, Administering medication. Diabetic care including insulin, vital signs using News2 to highlight a deteriorating person
