What does this Senior Care Assistant job involve?

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide high-quality personal, emotional, and physical care to residents, ensuring dignity and comfort at all times.
  • Support and supervise junior staff, offering guidance, training, and leadership under senior staff direction.
  • Assist residents with mobility, continence, mealtimes, and end-of-life care, using appropriate aids and sensitivity.
  • Maintain accurate care records, contribute to care planning, and ensure timely documentation and communication.
  • Promote resident engagement through social activities, hobbies, and meaningful interactions.
  • Respond promptly to calls, visitors, and telephone inquiries, ensuring professional and courteous communication.
  • Monitor and report on residents’ well-being, liaising with healthcare professionals and family members as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in residents’ rooms and communal areas, including care of personal equipment and clothing.
  • Uphold residents’ rights, privacy, and dignity, acting with integrity and professionalism at all times.
  • Take responsibility for a designated area of care or operations, contributing to continuous improvement and team performance.

We are looking for a compassionate and skilled individual who meets the following criteria:

 

Essential Requirements:

 

  • Proven experience working with older people
  • Knowledge of clinical assessment tools (e.g., Waterlow)
  • Experience in care planning and writing care plans
  • Ability to lead a shift and supervise staff effectively
  • Strong organisational and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Flexible and reliable with a proactive approach to problem-solving
  • Able to build trust and positive relationships with residents, families, and colleagues
  • Committed to maintaining high standards of care and professionalism
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent)

 

Desirable Attributes:

 

  • Previous experience in a care home environment
  • Experience of working with individuals with dementia
